I just found you listening to NPR, Lady Gaga was taking a day off so I blew the dust off my FM radio thing and there you were, the former driver of the car must have been some tree hugging hippy who listened to NPR, anyway, I listened to your Paw Paw for Jesus monologue and well, I’m in love with a women. My mother would be so upset, in love with a women, how could I disappoint her like this! I really should have this radio thing looked at, and should check out the history of vehicles I purchase more closely, what if had been a Christian station, Oh the humanity, how close to the abyss was I? Thank you for saving my soul! I owe you, not money but yeah I owe you. You did get the part about not owing you money right?

I was on a Road Trip from NH to NYC and was pleased to tune into one of my favorite radio programs, This American Life. Listening to the show is like Christmas, just waiting for the story to start and then the next one is like unwrapping a gift under the tree. Your story Paw Paw for Jesus was my favorite Road Trip story that day and made my road trip more enjoyable. I decided to Google you and was happy to listen to your other archived stories. When I want to laugh, I say “Paw Paw for Jesus” – brilliant stories, thank you.

I heard the “Paw Paw for Jesus” segment on This American Life this week, and Cheryl’s dry wit and unique reading style blew me away. Since then, I’ve failed to find more Trykv works. Really, only one show this year? *sigh* I am so tired of David Sedaris. Come to Seattle, Cheryl!
Yes, I must admit that I, too, was taken in by “Paw Paw for Jesus.” Having recently driven from Holland to Kalamazoo (and having a friend from Dowagiac), I can all-too-well appreciate this terrific narrative. My upbringing in Oklahoma also helped me appreciate the religious and redneck bits. Keep ‘em coming.
